Rambling: Smart Cookie, minus the cookie

...sometimes, you just need to indulge

I have been in the middle of a cooking frenzy. I suppose it's therapeutic. Cathartic. Whatever you want to call it. No recipes to reveal today though. My food shots are being held hostage on David's camera, so until I find the camera cord...

David and I went to look at an apartment in Hoboken yesterday. Our other roommate let us know she is moving out by December 1 as well, so now it will be us and two new people. We figured we should at least start looking. It's going to be hard to replace the apartment we have now, but I'm excited about the prospect of something new for just the two of us!

The apartment we looked at was horrendous, and David had barely finished parking the car before I was already saying "no thanks..." to the realtor.

In the meantime, check out this New York Times article about counting calories. A couple of months ago, it became a New York law that food establishments must post the calorie count of all of their dishes. Gulp. I was in for a rude awakening at Starbucks. Everywhere you look, calories are shaking a finger at you. It's bad enough that I pay 10 cents (yes, I know it's only 10 cents) more for a grande cup of coffee in NYC than in Hoboken, now...I have to put the scone down. Put-it-down.

Personally though, I think it's a great idea. It makes people think twice about some of their eating choices. More importantly, it makes people more AWARE of their choices. Who knew that a chocolate donut at Starbucks is 500 calories?

Now, if I could just stop eating Qdoba Naked Burrito Chicken salads....those can't be good for you.

I don't even want to know. It will ruin my order-in (yes, they deliver Qdoba in Hoboken) indulgence.

It's like the time I found out Arby's Market Fresh sandwiches have nearly as many fat grams as a Whopper. All in moderation...

Mmmmm...Qdoba!! It's my one of my many weaknesses. I do not want to know how many calories are in their food. It's best not to know and just go to the gym.
